GARRY KASPAROV

Garry Kasparov born on 13th April 1963, chess Grand Master became the world champion at the age of 22 by defeating Anatoly Karpov.  He held title till 1993 as undisputed world champion.  In 1993 he went against FIDE and created Professional Chess Association (PCA) and held the title till 2000.

Kasparov started playing chess at a very young age and by 10 he started attending Mikhail Botvinnik’s Chess School.  He attained his GM title in 1980.

His first World Championship against Anatoly Karpov in the year 1984 was abandoned after 48 games in which Karpov was leading with 5-3.  After that they played three more matches in 1985 at Moscow,  in 1986 at London and Leningrad, in 1987 at Sevielle and in 1990 at New York and Lyon.

Kasparov announced his retirement in 2005 but decided to take part St.Louis Rapid and Blitz tournament in 2017

Kasparov was the first player to achieve a rating above 2800 and was ranked world No.1 for almost 20 years.

Kasparov has won many tournaments in his career has also won the Chess Oscar 11 times.

Kasparov has authored many books the first being “Fighting Chess- My Games and Career.

He contested the FIDE Presidential election in 2013 and lost to Kirsan IIyumzhinov.

Kasparov was actively involved in Politics since 1984 and at present is the Chairman of Human Rights Foundation.
